Statement of Significance
National Estate Register:
This substantial two storey bluestone building is a local landmark making an important contribution to the local streetscape (Criterion F.1). The Hotel's substantial size and relatively early date is a reflection of both the early settlement of this part of Victoria from the late 1830s onward and of the significance of the Hamilton Highway, which was one of the early routes into the Western District from one of the district's main entry points, Geelong (Criterion A.4).

Inverleigh Hotel (Lake's Hotel) - Physical Description 1
National Estate Register:
Inverleigh Hotel is believed to have been built in 1860 and it stands on what was one of the major routes to the
western district. The two storey, coursed bluestone hotel has a symmetrical main facade, with a central front
entrance and paired multi-pane windows to either side. The building has had at least two verandahs at
different times in the past. A passage extends through the centre of the front section and contains the stair.
Continuing the side street facade is a rear wing which makes the original building L-shaped. The present structure is U-shaped, a rear wing having been added. The present bar is largely in this side wing, leaving the
quite small ground floor rooms in the front section largely intact. Various alterations have been made to the
fabric, yet the Hotel is surprisingly intact, particularly on the first floor, where the original wide floor boards
survive.Inverleigh Hotel (Lake's Hotel) - Integrity
Condition and Integrity:
The Hotel is essentially intact and in sound condition. It is not known if one of the verandahs shown in old photographs was original. One window at the front has been converted into a door. (May 1988)
