Statement of Significance
Monomeith Park house and trees are of significance to Cardinia Shire and the West Gippsland Region for their representation of a long-term farming enterprise carried out by the Bourke family which achieved prominence for its beef cattle production, perhaps within the Commonwealth context. The Bourkes also held fame within the district for their horse breeding and competition, as well as possessing links with some of the first permanent settlers along the Sale Road.

Monomeith Park - Physical Description 1
This is a large double-fronted weatherboard verandahed farm house, comprised of many wings, with cast-iron verandah detailing which appears to date from the turn of the century. Nearby is a timber stable complex (two blocks) which was transported from the Bourke's Pakenham property. To the east is an old wool shed which was reputedly associated with Old Monomeith (not inspected).
LandscapeMature plantings include extensive rows of `Cupressus macrocarpa', Monterey cypress, dating from c1915; yucca; lilly pilly, `Acmena smithii'; loquat, `Eriobotrya japonica'; Canary Island palm, `Phoenix canariensis' x 3; `Photinia serratifolia'; the windmill palm, `Trachycarpus fortuneii'; and pittosporum. Lawn has grown over many of the c1930-40s concrete-edged garden beds. These are in various shapes such as diamonds, rectangles, etc. and were probably intended to be planted with colourful annuals.
A large `Pinus radiata' or Monterey pine, is in the paddock behind the stables.
The former fence (now removed) at the west side of the house was of corrugated iron, while a timber picket fence, painted white, extended along the south side. Early picket fences and a gateways survive along the frontage, as do some paddock fences.
