What is significant?
'Alrose', constructed in 1910 by Hans Glissman, at 45 Elgin Street, Berwick.
How is it significant?
'Alrose' is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Casey.
Why is it significant?
Historically, 'Alrose' is significant as a surviving 1910 timber cottage within the Berwick township, a typical building of that era. It is significant also for its associations with the Thomas family, who were local newspaper proprietors, teachers and active members of the community. (AHC criteria A4, D2 and H1)
Aesthetically, 'Alrose' is significant as a representative and intact example of a late Victorian/Federation weatherboard cottage. (AHC criteria E1)
