Granite Quarries (Former) - Physical Description 1
Description
This is a picturesque granite quarry set in native forest which was reputedly used to produce stone for headstones, quoins, thresholds, and steps -all typically used in the City of Melbourne. Located close to a dam the quarry has stone sections which show the mark of the dowels used to split the stone. To the north-east there is another smaller quarry with similar signs of stone slab extraction but with the added evidence of a brick chimney base (since tilted on its side) and the associated riveted sheet iron chimney lying across the track on its side.Heritage Study and Grading
