Statement of Significance
Statement of Significance: Arundel, built in 1889 by Arthur Gravatt, is of state historical and architectural significance.
Historically, Arundel is significant as the only known surviving boarding house built specifically for prison warders in Victoria. It was built close enough to the prison for warders to hear the bell at the start of duty shifts.
Architecturally, Arundel is significant as the only nineteenth-century two storey weatherboard building in Coburg.
