Statement of Significance
Lightstation group of 1887-90 consisting of 130 ft. tower, an early example in concrete; headkeepers' and assistant keepers' quarters in timber; all arranged in an unusually close symmetrical relationship occasioned by the limited site area; the whole bound together with surrounding and connecting dry stone walling. Later infilling of verandahs and ancillary buildings within the group, together with those concealed in an adjacent hollow in the sand dunes, are excluded.
The cast iron spiral staircase in the tower has no central column to give support to the landings which instead are provided with heavy wall brackets. The cast iron external lantern gallery is supported on cast brackets, and the balustrade around the lower balcony is of a typical cast post and rail pattern. The glass brick infilling of the former opening in the tower for an auxiliary light is excluded.
