LESLIE & ROSS RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION SITE - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: This was as construction camp built by Leslie & Ross, the subcontractors who constructed this section of the Melbourne - Mt Alexander and Murray Valley Railway between 1859 and 1860. There was a large workers camp in the vicinity. A private siding was built into the camp and a bluestone gravel crushing plant was also erected.

Heritage Inventory Interpretation: An 1859 - 1862 railway construction camp and private railway siding. There was a gravel crusher and other structures. The dam was built as part of the camp. The Nissan hut is unrelated to original function of the site.

LESLIE & ROSS RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION SITE - Heritage Inventory Description
Large, semi cylindrical iron "Nissan shed", currently being used as a pumping shed. There is an extensive area of brick ruins, with some in situ iron fixtures and scattered artefacts. There are in situ archaeological deposits. The bed of a disused railway siding leads from the site to the north, towards the Melbourne to Bendigo line. There is a large dam on the site.
Heritage Inventory Significance: High archaeological significance (9). There appear to be well preserved in situ archaeological deposits at this site. High regional historical significance. This site is rare example of a railway construction camp dating from 1859 to 1862.
Heritage Inventory Site Features: - Nissan shed. - possible ruined structures/artefact scatter. - disused railway siding. - dam.
