GREENWICH BAY UNIDENTIFIED JETTIES #1, 2 AND 3 - History
Three jetties are shown in the Greenwich Bay area behind H7822-0536 which was used to reclaim the bay. Jetties #2 & 3 now lie under the Newport Power Station, and Jetty #1 straddles Douglas Parade from the NE corner of Digman Reserve into Riverside Park. Fabric from these structures may still survive as it is likely that it was buried during reclamation, but the construction of the Newport Power Station foundations may have destroyed jetties #2 & 3.GREENWICH BAY UNIDENTIFIED JETTIES #1, 2 AND 3 - Interpretation of Site
Three jetties are shown in the Greenwich Bay area behind H7822-0536 which was used to reclaim the bay. Jetties # 2 & 3 now lie under the Newport Power Station, and Jetty #1 straddles Douglas Parade from the NE corner of Digman Reserve into Riverside Park. It is probable given the age of these structures, and their possible associated with the Government Quarry that they are made of the more robust stone, as opposed to a timber pier. Fabric from these structures may still survive as it is likely that it was buried during reclamation, but the construction of the Newport Power Station foundations may have destroyed jetties #2 & 3, unless they are buried deep underground. Further research is required to identify the companies associated with these structures, but it is possible that they were associated with the Government Quarries nearby.
Further investigation is needed.
