Stained Glass Window at Hawthorn West Presbyterian Church - Memorial Window Description & History
The foundation stone of the Presbyterian Church in Power Street Hawthorn West was laid by James Dyer Esq. on 9 July 1910. The brick building was designed by HW and FB Tomkins and built by J Bennell & Son. It is now a congregation of the Uniting Church of Australia.
TheResurrection was one of three lights ordered from Brooks, Robinson & Co. by Mr. JH Cameron in May 1947. The central light, the Ascension,was a memorial to the Reverend John Meers, a former minister of the church; theright hand light depicted the Descent of the Holy Spirit and was in memory of pioneers of the church; theleft hand light, measuring approximately 116 x 24 inches, was installed as a tribute to the men and women who served in the 1939-1945 war. The window was unveiled and dedicated on Sunday 21 September 1947.
