The pair of windows was unveiled by Dr. Walter Summons, a founding member of the congregation, and dedicated by the Archbishop of Melbourne, JJ Booth, CMG, MC, BA, DD on 13 July 1958.
Viva St. George Summons (nee Sproule)was a traineddoctor (MB BS) like her husband, and was the fourth daughter of James Sproule of Kew. She and Walter Ernest Summons were married at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Kew on 2 June 1909.
The two-light window was designed by Sir Ninian Comper, one of Britainwell-known stained glass artists. In this window Comper 'signed' his work with hisrebus, a small strawberry leaf, flower and fruit, whichcan be seen in the lower portion of the window.
Edith Cavell was a nurse in charge of a Brussels hospital during the First World War when enemy troops invaded the city. She was instrumental in assisting nearly 200 allied soldiers to escape before she was arrested and executed in 1915.
