Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Camberwell St. Mark's Anglican Church - Memorial Window Description & History
Draffin suggests this was the first of a cycle of windows installed by Waller, however this appears to be contradicted by the date of dedication of the sanctuary window to the memory of Robert Ware. Subsequently other windows were installed in 1959, 1962-65. A second plaque reveals Waller's concept: 'The treatment of the subject depicts Christ illumined and as the centre of a great aura and radiance of coloured light, which halates outwards to the figures of Moses and Elijah. The halation of light transits upwards through the tracery to a variety of deeper and richer blue where are depicted the Trinity. On the bottom of each of the three windows crouch the figures of St. John, St. Peter and St. James being veiled from a clear vision by the intervening belt of cloud. They are still closely tied to an ordinary vision of their surroundings and so are in a state of ignorance and perplexity.'
