Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The house, designed and constructed c.1933 by J.L. Rowden, at 110-112 McCartin Street, Leongatha is significant. It is a large rendered brick inter war bungalow with tiled hip roof, which shows the influence of the Mediterranean/Spanish Mission Style. Symmetrical in plan, the most notable feature is the large central porch, which has a jerkinhead (half-hip) roof and a triple-arched opening (with single arched openings to the side) resting on barley twist columns, and is accessed by a flight of steps. The walls are a mixture of smooth and textured render, and the windows to the main elevation are timber framed and comprise double sash with diamond pattern leadlight to the upper pane on either side of a fixed pane. They are boxed and rest on corbels. The original double front doors have diamond pattern glazing. There is one brick chimney
Non-original alterations including the carport and at the rear, and other buildings are not significant.

Why is it significant?
Aesthetically, it is an example of an interwar bungalowwhich shows the influence of theMediterranean style, whichcan be seen in the symmetrical massing, the large central porch with triple-arched opening (with single arched openings to the side) resting on barley twist columns (a nod to the Spanish Mission style), the mixture of smooth and textured render to the walls, and the formal entrance with double doors. The significance of the place is enhanced by its high degree of intactness.(Criterion E)

The main elevations of the house are highly intact. There are alterations and additions at the rear, and a sympathetic carport has been constructed to one side.
