House - Physical Description 1
A two storey Italianate villa whose massive scale is emphasised by the steepness of the roof pitch and the complexity of the roof form required to create projecting bays. These contain a two level return cast iron verandah. Specific attributes are the elaborate and dominant chimneys, slate roof, elaborate detailing to cement render (especially architraves and paired eaves brackets), intact window fenestration (including a stained glass stair window at the rear) and cast iron verandah. In 1922, the only alteration was the addition of a small skillion extension off the side ground floor verandah and a high timber fence and later garage. The property underwent comprehensive renovations, extensions and restoration in 1998. These involved the removal of the earlier additions, complete reconstruction of the verandah, restoration of the exterior of the house, and the construction of simple additions, single storey skillion to the east and a simple modernist two storey to the north, both of which are subordinate elevations. These alterations retained the overall integrity.
