What is significant?
The c1890/1900 combined shop and residence and the surrounding site to the title boundaries (The site is connected with the adjacent St Andrews hotel- H019).
How is it significant?
The combined shop is historically, aesthetically and socially significant to the Shire of Nillumbik.
Why is it significant?
The combined shop is socially and historically significant because it is one of the two traditional social hubs of St. Andrews (the St Andrews Hotel, HO19 being the other one) and has in recent decades been used for the display of works by local artists, potters and leather/ wood workers (Criteria G & H).
The combined shop is historically and aesthetically significant because it is one of only two examples of a 1890/1900s combined shop and residence in the area and, in combination with the adjacent St Andrews Hotel, is a major component of the streetscape of St Andrews (Criteria B & E).
